Single Mothers Get Support
The
Housing Authority of the County of Santa Clara is partnering with United Way to
administer WOMEN LEADING CHANGE, a program created to assist single female
parents who are Section 8 Voucher holders to become self-sufficient.
United Way’s Women Leading Change empowers single
mother households to overcome poverty and increase self-sufficiency through
financial education and matched savings that can be used to acquire one of
the following assets:
• College
education • A small business • Advanced training •
Home ownership
•
Participants in the program will establish five-year
financial development goals and participate in the following Core Program
Components to help them achieve their goals:
Foundations for Success - Establishing and
maintaining a personal support network.
Financial Education and Planning - Learning
about traditional financial and banking services.
Financial Management - Utilizing financial
tools such as checking, savings and Individual Development Accounts (IDA).
Job and Career Advancement - Employment and
career planning to increase income.
How to Join
If you
are interested in volunteering for this program, and you:
- are a
participant of the Section 8 Voucher Program; and
- are a
female head of household with at least one child under 18; and
- have current stable employment and have at least 3 years of work experience; and
- are willing to join the Family Self Sufficiency Program; and
- are motivated to work towards self sufficiency; and
- have a “reasonable” credit history, or are willing to work on your credit;
